LENNON FLOWERS: OVERCOMING THE CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE

August 13, 2020

Lennon Flowers is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of The Dinner Party, a community of 10,000+ (mostly) 20- and 30-somethings working to turn loss from a conversation-stopper to a conversation-starter, with the goal of transforming our most isolating experiences into sources of meaningful connection and forward movement. She is a co-founder of The People’s Supper, which uses shared meals to build trust and connection among people of different identities and perspectives. Since January 20, 2017, The People’s Supper has powered thousands of suppers across the country, with partners including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Righteous Persons Foundation, USC Center EDGE, the Mayor’s Office in Erie, PA,  the Obama Foundation, and more. Her work is born of the popular adage that change moves at the speed of trust, and a simple question: What needs healing here? Lennon is an Ashoka Fellow and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UNC. Backpacking, vinegar-based barbecue, and a good dance party rank high on her list of favorite things.

In Greg's conversation with Lennon, Lennon talks about her experience building and sustaining peer-driven communities by using dinners as an entry point to build connections and openly talk about grief. She shares her experiences commanding big vision with varying levels of resources and the strength of bonding and bridging ties.
